Mateusz Szczecinski proved once again that he is one of the most dangerous grapplers on the planet with his championship performance in the Polaris 38 Grand Prix, capturing title gold and $30,000 with three straight wins over elite welterweights. Szczecinski started his day with two devastating submission wins before winning in the finals in a narrow, competitive split decision with PJ Barch.
Szczecinski defeated Deandre Corbe with his signature ankle lock to open the tournament before snatching a highlight reel armbar in his semifinal against Michael Liera Jr. PJ Barch navigated his way past a game Taylor Pearman and Tommy Langaker before meeting Mateusz in the finals. They battled through a close fifteen minute affair before the Polish Boogeyman got his hand raised. It's another emphatic statement from the Academia Gorila athlete as he adds to his impressive resume.
Also in action was Sarah Galvao, winning the Polaris bantamweight championship in a dominant showing. Sarah attacked early and often before sinking in the fight-ending darce choke late in the first round to force the tap. Sarah is undefeated in super fight action as a black belt. She was one of three Atos athletes to win at the event, with Emily Leyva and Nata Tença also victorious on the undercard.
