When the MMA fighter Michel Pantoja tapped out before his fight with Matheus Kokama had really started.
After both fighters completed introductions and touched gloves, Pantoja immediately dropped to the canvas and tapped, ending the contest almost instantly.
Referee Dioclemar Neto didn’t register the tap right away, so the fight is officially logged at seven seconds, according to Tapology.
Though by any practical measure, it was over within a second or two of the opening bell.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Pantoja attributed the abrupt stoppage to injuries sustained in a recent motorcycle accident, saying he wasn’t in condition to compete.
The explanation has done little to quiet skepticism around the finish, with the circumstances raising questions about whether Pantoja should have been cleared to fight at all if he wasn’t fit to compete in the first place.
For Kokama, however, the outcome leaves him with a win on his record under conditions unlikely to feel satisfying, having prepared for a fight that never materialized.
