Gordon Ryan, despite being retired from competition, appears willing to return for a bet match against Kron Gracie.
Gracie won his ADCC title at under 77kg, and while Ryan has previously competed and won at under 88kg, he hasn’t fought that light in years, spending the later part of his career locked into either the under or over 99kg divisions.
Gracie, meanwhile, has since dropped all the way to featherweight (65kg) for MMA.
The matchup isn’t rooted in any competitive motivation, but it stems from a personal dispute.
It began when Gracie criticized an interview given by Ryan’s coach, John Danaher:
I cannot believe people fall for this guy’s bullsh*t. All he did was put everyone who won at black belt through an AI database before AI was big and created the super fighter. He can explain but he can’t do sh*t.
Ryan pushed back, arguing that Danaher’s students have far outpaced Gracie’s in titles won.
Gracie responded by proposing a match directly:
Don’t be a big ol p**sy, do a match if your belly ain’t [hurting].
I recommend stay off the juice so it don’t pop [Gordon Ryan], no time, and Danaher can’t be there to see if you are capable alone.
Ryan officially announced his retirement from competition earlier this year, but he’s signaled enough confidence in the matchup to consider stepping in without any real camp:
We can do a match anytime. I don’t even need to train for it.
