Bryce Mitchell is stepping back into professional grappling for the toughest challenge he’s faced in the sport – booked to take on Mikey Musumeci at UFC BJJ 11!
It marks a significant jump in competition from his last outing without strikes, a draw against fellow MMA veteran Jean Silva at Hype Fighting: Brazil just months ago.
Beyond that, Mitchell’s high-level grappling resume is thin, limited mostly to an opening-round submission loss at EBI 25.
Musumeci represents a different tier of competition entirely, widely regarded as one of the best grapplers of his generation.
If there’s any real criticism of his run, it’s the depth of competition available to him at bantamweight, a byproduct of just how thoroughly he’s cleared out that division.
He’s already faced nearly every top bantamweight in the world and has moved up in weight before to find new challenges, something he’s doing again here against Mitchell.
As the reigning and only bantamweight world champion in UFC BJJ history, Musumeci will move up to featherweight for this fight. Which is Mitchell’s primary MMA weight class, though he has competed as high as lightweight before.
On paper, the size gap and Mitchell’s MMA-first background make this an unconventional pairing, but the matchup has been building publicly for weeks.
Mitchell and Musumeci traded jabs on social media, with Mitchell criticizing Musumeci’s style and Musumeci responding by pledging to avoid guard pulling and leglocks entirely once the match was made official.
