Andrew Wiltse has given the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community an encouraging update, revealing he’s in a better place personally and professionally as he prepares to open a new academy alongside his brother, Bird Wiltse.
After a difficult stretch out of the spotlight, Wiltse posted a video explaining that he’s spent the last three months living in Kearney, Nebraska, rebuilding his life while coaching at Magnum MMA.
He said the move followed a reconciliation with his brother while he was still living in Lafayette:
Me and him talked over the phone, repaired our relationship, and then Bird told me: “Just come move up, we’ll make something happen.”
Since relocating, Wiltse has been teaching Jiu-Jitsu at Magnum MMA under gym owner Justin Weaver, while prioritizing both his physical conditioning and mental health:
I’ve been getting in shape and just putting myself back together, mental health-wise. Everything’s doing good.
The biggest piece of news, though, is the launch of a new academy.
Wiltse Brothers BJJ is set to open in August in Kearney, Nebraska, a joint venture with Justin Weaver and the Magnum MMA team that will pair the Wiltse brothers’ established teaching style with the local martial arts community already in place.
Wiltse described the project as a chance to rebuild both his career and his personal life:
I’m happy. I got an opportunity to kind of put my life back together, still work with Bird and do everything like that.
