Since Raleigh’s about 30 minutes away, we spend less time there than other, closer areas of the Triangle. But, last night we had tickets to see the Pat McGee Band, which (OMG!) is a group that used to play at Duke quite often, and one of the first times Harold and I hung out, we went to their concert (Awww!), and Harold even made me a mix CD of their hits (OMG!) and consequently, our first wedding dance was to a Pat McGee tune (Awww!).
Pat has gotten a little bit older (I think one of his songs was about his daughter) but he’s still traveling from college town to college town like a poor man’s Dave Matthews. And, still, I approve, even though I must be getting older, too. We barely made it to the end of night, when the music stopped at an outrageous 1:30 in the morning. Craziness!
Before the show began, we were able to catch the end of Artsplosure, which had taken over Moore Square. All the booths were closed, but Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe had the crowd dancing as part of Music in the Park. Next year we’ll have to check out the Art Market, which I’m sure Harold is heartbroken to have missed this time around.
Pre-music dinner was at Sawasdee – which lived up to its reputation as the best Thai available in the region. I wouldn’t say it was good enough to make a special trip, but it earned a solid spot on the list of possibilities the next time we’re headed in that direction. I was a bit surprised that the Massaman curry was pre-made, and so I couldn’t sub out the beef for chicken. Not the greatest sign in terms of the freshness factor, but luckily it was still decent.
There you have it, kids – a hot night out on the town in the life of two old married folks. Did I mention that next week, I’m beginning a quilting project?
