This past weekend took us to the Outer Banks for some warm weather fun, as I enjoyed data collecting in the local schools (less exciting) and parking myself next to the ocean (incredibly exciting). Since this weekend was also a good time to celebrate Harold’s Almost Birthday, we extended our trip so that the work part was just a sidebar to the serious business of vacationing.
Where We Stayed:

Since we wanted to take Princess Noodle along, it was not ultra-easy to find accommodations. Hotels & motels are far outnumbered by house & condo rentals, but getting a large space didn’t make sense for just the two/three of us, and almost every hotel we encountered rejected fur. So, we were already thinking good things about the Sandbar Bed & Breakfast for allowing us to pack the pooch. Sandbar is patrolled by its own resident pet – and fortunately the owners were quite tolerant of Noodle taking over their living quarters to pursue their friendship.
The place gets great reviews on Trip Advisor, and we can certainly see why it would be impossible to say anything bad about the friendly owner & innkeepers, who were full of restaurant recommendations and other local advice. In addition, the place is reasonably priced compared to many rental options, and it’s literally across the street from the water. Staying there also meant getting a continental breakfast spread each morning, wine & cheese in the evening, and access to a full kitchen, washer/dryer, beach supplies & bikes.
