5 Reasons Why Today Is Pretty, Pretty Good

by Laura

Today was just another ordinary Wednesday in the life of a grad student cranking out final papers.  This little worker bee seriously needs a new glasses prescription after so many hours at the computer this year.  Boo hoo.  But….

#1 – Trader Joe’s lunchtime shopping meant that my realization that they’ve discontinued yet another thing I love (grr!) was partially offset by grabbing food at nearby Evos.  Sort of obsessed with their Thai chicken wraps!  It’s a little pricey for fast food, but has the bonus effect of pretending to be healthy.  And it was free organic milkshake day (hey, I said pretending!), which of course my husband was alert to.  And, he generously left me at least half of mine to drink.

#2 – I am halfway done with finals.  Not great progress, true, but at least there’s some hope around the corner, so I allowed myself to celebrate with an old school Salt-N-Pepa dance break.  Plus, I just had a moment where I was all like, “Hey, I’m actually remembering something I learned last semester that I can reference again and I’ve got that book right here in my super scholarly library of essays and facts”.  Score!  I’ve gotten extra good at maximizing work efficiency so I can check Facebook 300 times a day, too.

#3 – I’ve been having to drive around North Carolina a bunch lately for work, but luckily the highway scenery is a bit better than in, say, New Jersey.  I like the way the tallest pines are bare at the bottom but full on top.  You can be in the forest and see it through the trees!

#4 – My dog is still extra cute.  You’d be surprised at how much a cute dog can continue to lift your spirits.

#5 – Trip to the Outer Banks=booked.  On a related side note, I convinced Harold that tracking down wild horses was exactly what he’d always dreamed of doing to celebrate his 30th birthday.  But, we’ll be in an open-air Jeep, traveling through sand dunes at the beach, so I’m sure he’ll find it in him to enjoy himself. Beach!! Did I mention how much I love the beach?

Bonus Reason: Going to Pilates every week appears to have counterbalanced my ever-increasing biscuit consumption.  Although, North Carolina has been embracing the cupcake shop trend in force lately, threatening to upset this delicate equilibrium.  But, on the bright side – cupcakes!

Let’s summarize: justifiable milkshakes, Shoop, nature, Noodle, ocean on the horizon, wild ponies, biscuits & cupcakes.   Thank you, Jeebus.  You always find a way to provide!
