One of Harold’s old co-workers also recently moved to a new state, and recommended joining Meetup groups to get to know other couples. We’ve long desired to cultivate some sort of hobby we can then crush other couples at, but there are a few issues with that scenario. Mainly, there’s nothing that we’re both amazingly talented at doing, unless you count catering to the needs of miniature poodles. (And, I refuse to take our Noodle obsession to the next level and start hanging out with other dog people. Please stop me if I become like the characters from Best in Show!) With Harold dominating the sports category, we are pretty darn good at Trivial Pursuit, but you may be surprised to hear that expertise at board games will only take you so far in both friendships and life.
To remedy this situation, today we browsed Meetup to check out the Chapel Hill offerings. I did become a member of the local book club, as one of my other long-standing goals has been to be part of a club that I didn’t have to organize. We also had several conversations that went something like this:
Harold: What about a hiking group?
Me: If the people are too hard-core and extreme I’m not doing it. Are there groups for people who like to take leisurely strolls in pleasant weather?
The best group that we found is called “I’ve Always Wanted to Try That”. Although I was initially turned off by the accompanying skydiving/death wish pics, their calendar includes less-adventurous offerings like wine tastings, salsa dancing, and roller skating. So, it basically sounds like a group full of activities that I’ve always wanted to drag my husband to – perfect! Can’t wait to meet other people with a relationship as good as ours

Instead of making new friends, I think you should reward old friends my mentioning them in your posts.

Nate, we were going to present you with a special “Friend of the Month” Daily Triangle Award at the end of March, but now you’ve pressured us into ruining the surprise.
