Finally, a dog park I can recommend

There are many things about North Carolina that I like more than New York City. For instance, grass. Also, the apartments are bigger, so there are more places to hide the things I steal from my owners.

But one big issue I’m having is the other dogs. In New York they’re mainly toy breeds and I’m a pretty normal size. If we ever played an actual game of basketball instead of just tearing at the ball, I would be the small forward. But in North Carolina the dogs come from two groups — sporting and working — and since there’s nothing really to hunt, herd or retrieve here, they pick on me instead.

That’s why I’m so happy that Chapel Hill finally built a small dog run for dogs under 25 pounds at Southern Community Park. The mulch on the ground isn’t as good as grass, but it’s a lot better than dirt or pavement. I went Sunday around 11 a.m. and there were about 6-7 dogs there, including one idiot who thought it could wrestle me to the ground, and another moron who thought it could outrun me to the bench. All small dogs should meet me there next Sunday. I slept through the car ride so I have no idea how to get there, but directions are on the web site.

There’s also soccer fields, basketball courts, an inline hockey court and a frisbee golf course. As far as I’m concerned, that all makes beautiful scenery as you walk toward the dog park.
