This weekend we had some family visitors, and although we wanted to show them Chapel Hill, it was somewhat freezing out.  Boo!  However, the Morehead Planetarium provided a decent activity option that kept us warm and indoors, not to mention well-informed about the galaxy.

Their newly upgraded digital projection system had its perks – although I’m not sure this particular show was the best for showing it off.  Since it was Valentine’s Day weekend, the show focused on stories of love within the constellations, narrated by an eager student with a unique work study job.  It was a pretty standard look at the local sky, and one of their laser shows or even the regularly scheduled black hole programming would have provided a bit more action.  Next time!

The planetarium schedule revolves around theater showings, so it closes for parts of each day.  Because of this, it’s best to check the online schedule before heading over.  Doors seem to open about 30 minutes before each presentation to allow time for checking out the small exhibit area.  Some of the old school astronaut equipment will make you wonder how we even managed to make it up in the sky to begin with.

For savings, click here to download a variety of coupons from the Chapel Hill Visitor’s Bureau, which includes a 2-for-1 deal to subsidize the cost of your next space show adventure.  The $60 membership offer also seems like a fantastic deal, since it includes unlimited admission for your entire family for the year.  To infinity and beyond!
