Yes, we’re back from vacation, sporting obnoxious tans and looking irritatingly well-rested. Not going to lie – our vacation was plain old awesome. But, now it’s back to the Triangle, which seems to have betrayed us by becoming SUPERCOLD in our absence. So cold that there were freeze warning signs scattered throughout our apartment complex.
Although this turn of weather events is decidedly unpleasant, we’re still happy to be home, and here are a few reasons why:
#1) Joy of recounting fabulous travels during first week back at school totally helps compensate for realization that new books for semester will cost $700. Also, Cantina is just 2 blocks away from the education building. Nobody satisfies a lunchtime burrito craving better!
#2) Michael Jackson Tribute show this weekend at Cat’s Cradle. I have a sparkly, fingerless glove at the ready.
#3) Tons of campus events to welcome in the new year, including the Blind Boys of Alabama, touring with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. We saw them on Sunday, and being on your feet was practically a requirement. It was worth the price of admission just to watch an anxious handler run back and forth between multiple blind musicians and try to prevent their energetic dancing from turning into falling. They kept the poor guy busy!
#4) They still sell biscuits here. Delicious in any season. Not to mention Jason’s Deli chicken salad sandwich on whole-wheat with pineapples, almonds and perfectly minimal mayo which has the honor of becoming my latest obsession. This healthy food chain is national, so you can go get some yourself!
#5) Our dog’s new haircut may have robbed her of all dignity (and warmth), but at least her lack of fur has encouraged her to do more snuggling, making her a perfect companion during Jersey Shore catch-up time. And, don’t pretend that you’re too good to have heard of Snooki and the Situation. This week there’s another fight! Classic! In other news, amount of reading assignments completed=zero.
Happy 2010, everyone! We’re off to an auspicious start!
