Wal-mart… do they like make walls there?

Today I went to the mall.  I have not actually shopped at a mall in years.  In New York you do this thing called running around to different boutique stores across the city, which is supposed to make you feel more exclusive and special.  Considering that my exclusivity is limited to the Gap, it always ended up being more like an inefficient way to find t-shirts and jeans.  Someone in NYC invented online shopping, I guarantee it – not Alaska, or North Dakota.  North Dakota probably just discovered the Internet two weeks ago. (Zing!)

The mall was abuzz with teenagers searching for Halloween costumes at Hot Topic, trailed by their impatient mothers, who had clearly only been invited because they had a driver’s license.  Already the proud owner of day-glo hoop earrings and fingerless gloves, all I needed were some leg warmers to round off my 1980′s costume vision.

Later in the evening, we went to Southern Season for a blind wine tasting.  For some reason I had envisioned us actually wearing blindfolds, which on second thought would have been highly impractical.  In reality, we were given 5 wines to try sans label.  We were supposed to guess their origin.  We were not good at this.  Fortunately it was one of those situations where at the end of the night everyone’s a winner – or, at least, everyone’s feeling like they are.  They have a variety of wine events every Friday starting at 5, which I would recommend as a pre-dinner activity worth the $15 admission fee.

If you like something you've tried, it's on sale that night for 10% off.

Noodle update:  Harold taught her how to shake.  I knew his lack of a job would have some sort of upside.  And no, I will not be torturing her with a costume of her own tomorrow, although if you have a particularly ridiculous idea, I could be convinced.
